Det er mye å glede seg over i Lucca.

Lucca er omkranset av en imponerende festningsmur på knappe fem kilometer. På innsiden finner du en hyggelig liten by, – lun, trang, sjarmerende og elegant. Mye italienske lyder og lukter, – og best av alt; biltrafikk eksisterer ikke. Du føler nesten av tiden har stått stille i Lucca. Men det er bare nesten. Det er en levende by. I løpet av de 4 dagene vi besøkte byen fikk vi med oss et enormt antikk og bruktmarked som avholdes hver tredje weekend i måneden, opera i kirken Chiesa di San Giovanni med kjente verker av Puccini, konsert med Neil Young på Piazza Napoleone – og ikke minst mange diskre og gastronomiske spisesteder. Lucca Summer Festival er vel høydepunktet. Hver sommer i juli fyller internasjonale stjerner scenen for et mildt sagt entusiastisk publikum. Det ble med andre ord en relativt aktiv avslutning på ferien.

The town of Lucca
Lucca is surrounded by a fortress wall just five kilometers long. Behind the wall you can find the small and charming town filled with narrow streets and elegant buildings. You’ll also find plenty of Italian sounds and smells, but more importantly, you will find a town free of cars and traffic. It feels as if time has stood still here. Yet it is still a vibrant and lively town. During our 4 days here we managed to experience an enormous market for antiques held every three months, an opera in the Chiesa di San Giovanni Church, a concert with Neil Young at the Piazza Napoleone, and of course many great places to eat. The Summer Festival is the highlight of the year here in Lucca. Every summer some of the biggest international stars in music come here to perform to an intensely enthusiastic crowd. In other word, we had an energetic end to our holiday.
